5 weird benefits of taking omegas

Omegas are the multihyphenates of the supplement world – a jack of all trades with multiple wellbeing benefits in their toolkit, from supporting heart health to giving skin a hydrated glow.

2. Omegas can improve flexibility

If you’re struggling to do crow pose in your yoga class, omegas could be the answer to improving mobility and flexibility – from stiff joints to tight muscles.

We love these, as they convert to anti-inflammatories. We don’t want inflammation in the body, which leads to various health and skin concerns, including inflammageing.”

3. Omegas could improve your sex life

Aside from being a brilliant lubricant for our joints (great for trying new positions), omega fatty acids are also said to support dopamine production -the happy hormone’ -and serotonin - ‘the love hormone’. 

Both hormones play a significant role in sexual function, from helping get us in the mood to supporting uterine blood flow. 

One study suggests omegas can help increase sexual arousal, performance and orgasm. Another study suggests omegas may improve the quality of semen, supporting fertility in men. 

While these studies are relatively new and require a little more research to determine the full benefits, we’re always willing to say yes, yes, yes to trying something new in the name of our health... 

 

4. Omegas can help you get better sleep

Sleep has long been touted as a beauty essential – it's the time when our bodies go into rest mode, so all our regenerating processes can work the night shift. It’s when skin cell renewal peaks – an essential process for a healthy, bright, clear, smooth complexion. 

Studies suggest omega 3 fatty acids may improve sleep quality and length – helping us to sleep better for longer 

Another found that higher blood levels of the long-chain omega-3 DHA (the main omega-3 fatty acid found in the brain) are significantly associated with better sleep. So instead of counting sheep, count out your omegas supplements to help improve restorative rest. 

 

5. Omegas can improve your mood

Did you know? Your brain is your hungriest organ.
